EH Wright Company provides automation solutions designed for manufacturing companies whose process contains raw materials having varying moisture contents.  Our US patented PugMaster application originated in 1994 for the Brick and Tile Clay Extrusion Industry and EH Wright CO. has maintained our status as the worldwide leader in clay extrusion column control.  The PugMaster System architecture is designed around  “Feed-Forward” control which requires a material Belt-Scale and material Moisture Sensor to obtain pre-extrusion data.  The plant extrusion operator enters a desired “Final Column Moisture” set-point and the control algorithm dynamically calculates the amount of water (or other) to be applied into the PugMill or mixer. 

Having implemented over 200 PugMaster Control System since 1994, the PugMaster has experienced two major hardware and software migrations. Beginning in 1994, the generation one PugMaster dubbed the “Classic” was designed on the Yokogawa YS170 cascading controller and provided dynamic calculation for water addition into the extrusion process.  The PugMaster Classic grew quickly to provide Feed and process Additive (dry & liquid) ratio controls.  In 2004 our generation two PugMaster Plus System was introduced to meet industry needs for an enhanced Graphical Operator Interface, additional Additive Control Loops, Internet Connectivity and Data Acquisition/Management.  The PugMaster Plus is PLC-based with a 15” color graphical operator interface.

In 2007 the generation three PugMaster Optima System was introduced.  The PugMaster Optima highlights our partnership with Allen-Bradley hardware and Rockwell Automation software.  As technology is advancing in rapid fashion, our inhouse engineering staff is constantly reviewing the PugMaster application to provide the most up-to-date product solutions for our customers.
